King’s Head Pub Santa Monica

Overview

We ended our cruise in Long Beach CA at 830 am on a Saturday morning. We quickly grabbed our luggage and headed to Santa Monica in our Uber. A perfect 20 min drive and we were at our destination. After a luggage drop and a quick check in, we went off to explore the downtown area of Santa Monica. We were disappointed in the fish and chip that we had in San Francisco and we were hoping Santa Monica offerings would be better. I looked online yesterday and found a few options, Mike also went online and found a place. The King’s Head Pub was a quick 10 min walk from our hotel room so we decided to stop in for a drink. We entered the pub and it was authentic for North American standards. We nicely settled in and ordered drinks, the vibe was cool with English Premier Soccer being played on the big screen. We decided that after our trip to the Santa Monica Pier, we would head back here for lunch after a conversation with our waitress.

Full English breakfast plus pub food was offered on the menu , the place had some of the “ Best of Santa Monica”accolades displayed on the walls of the pub. We had a quick drink and made our way down to the Santa Monica Pier.

Review

After a good couple hours on the pier and one Custard Cone later we went back to the King’s Head. Fish and Chips seem to be the popular choice along with some Sautéed Brussel Sprouts. Monica and myself decided on trying both kinds of Fish & Chips. One was traditional and the other was beer battered, both orders came out quick, I added some curry sauce to my order.

Mike and Doreen enjoyed the Brussel Sprouts , they were topped with crispy bacon and had a nice char on them, tossed in balsamic vinegar . Our Fish was good , both batters were light and crisp and not greasy. The Beer battered was the favourite from everyone at the table. This pub did so many of the right things except serving Steak Cut French Fries rather than chips. The curry sauce was surprising sweet with a hint of raisins and tamarind; I wasn’t a big fan of it but it was ok. After our lunch, I grabbed a sausage roll from the bakery attached to the pub. The sausage roll pastry was light and flaky and the pork filling had a good flavour the spices didn’t over power the meat mixture. Monica had a bite and also liked it.

Final Thoughts

This was a quaint little British Pub in Santa Monica California with a nice pub menu. The vibe was good the food was solid, way better fish and chips than we had in San Francisco. We give the King’s Head Pub 7.2Tasty Bites out of 10
